How ChatGPT Sells FOR Your Competitors

ChatGPT is already selling for your competitors.

Here’s how you can do it too.

Don’t worry.

I’m not another self proclaimed “AI expert”, shifting my business overnight to ride the AI wave.

But I am an expert in selling physical products in a digital World.

It’s my job to keep an eye on where digital selling is going.

And digital selling is going AI.  Quickly.

Now agentic shopping is headed toward the exponential curve.

This is where AI moves from search box to problem-solving.

And we won’t index or rank the way we’re used to.

Ranking on say, ChatGPT, is contextual in nature.

In other words, there is normally a deeper set of criteria.

Here are a couple of examples of traditional vs AI search.

𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: “gluten-free protein bars”.

𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: “what gluten free protein bars are trending on TikTok right now?”

Two very different searches.

Here’s another one.

𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: “anklets for teenage girl”.

𝗔𝗜 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: “what’s a good gift for my 13-year-old niece who already has everything?”

Again, two very different searches.

AI search is just more complex than one-dimensional terms.

They tend to be have more 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 criteria.

Or we could say, people are searching for things in a specific context.

And AI agents - which represent the next generation of AI - are exactly designed to solve for problems - 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵.

Here are the ranking / indexing strategies I’ve put together:

𝟭. 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 varied 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Have a blog, include benefit forward website text, and participate in interviews that will be published on the web.

Appear anywhere and everywhere you possibly can.

𝟮. 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼r Formal 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

This includes Certifications, awards, nominations, and associations.

𝟯. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀.

That means Volume, quality, and detailed replies -> feature the best of those on your website and other prominent pages.

𝟰. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲, 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗘𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 search engine 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.

For now, AI bots are still searching Google and other search engines.  Keep in mind that higher ranked sites carry more web authority.

𝟱. 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀.

Again, Industry lists usually carry more web authority, plus they give you more crawlable text.

𝟲. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Online periodicals like Inc, Forbes, etc. carry more web authority than other sites.

𝟳. When you can, u𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗯 based 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲.

People prompt ChatGPT the way they talk. So address specific needs in a conversational tone.  An example might be, “Acme Brand protein bars are the hottest protein bar on TikTok right now”.  It’s not a formal title, and it isn’t something you would list on say, an Amazon listing.  But it’s definitely something someone might be looking for through an AI search engine.

𝟴. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀.

Creators and Influencers often have a lot of reach across search engines and social media platforms.  For Amazon, make sure you’re using Creator Connections to show up on Creators Stores, and even off-platform posts and articles.

Remember that this is not just about ChatGPT.

AI assistants are showing up in vehicles, TV’s, and even kitchen appliances.

This is the future of online shopping.

The time to start thinking this way was yesterday.

We drive velocity in Sprouts, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Sam's, COSTCO, and lots of other retailers.

We grow brands on Amazon.
