The last few years have been a roller coaster for Target.
2023: Conservatives Boycott leads to 20% loss in share price.
2025: Liberal Botcott leads to 20% loss in share price. ∞
Granted, other retailers implemented the same policies.
But Target sure likes for them to be in your face.
Regardless, today, they have nowhere to go but up.
Im not sure they have a lot worth keeping.
I think if I were faced with this turnaround…
I think I might skate to where the puck is headed.
Wayne Gretzky might call that the future of retail.
Here’s what that might look like for Target.:
𝟭. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁
- Smaller stores. Dense markets.
- 19 Million Americans still live in food deserts.
𝟮. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀: 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 + 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝘂𝗯𝘀
- Delivery, curbside substantially outpace retail growth.
𝟯. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘆.
- Home is not coming back. Grocery is not going away.
- Target needs to dump the dead space.
𝟰. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗞𝗨 𝗥𝗮𝗍𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
- Fewer SKUs. Higher turns.
- More than half of retailers are rationalizing.
𝟱. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹.
- “Showroom” level lighting and merchandising.
- Create stores worthy of a selfie.
In the end, we know where retail is going.
Walmart is showing us every day.
As are Costco and TJ Maxx.
We no longer have to leave the house to shop.
So we need to give people a reason to.
What do you think?
Would you rather walk into a Target or a Walmart?
--------------
We work with quite a few brands in Target.
Many have up to 40% digital penetration.
Target Roundel, Instacart, and DoorDash.
We execute with precision.
